The ability to write great ad copy for any marketing endeavor is indispensable. More important than graphics are the words that you choose. Below is a great guideline to follow when writing your ad copy.

1. Create compelling headlines that trigger a great desire “to get more information.” Amazingly, negative headlines work very well. Example: Stop Being a Network Marketing Failure – Beat The 5 Reasons for MLM Failure Now! This headline will draw most people who are struggling to make it in MLM and want to read more. It’s a negative headline that gets a positive result… “Stop Being a Network Marketing Failure” is the negative. “Beat The 5 Reasons for MLM Failure Now “, is the benefit to draw them in to read more.

2. Stay away from using CAPS or BOLD CAPS… as much as possible. It distracts the reader rather than get their attention. It is like you are yelling at them. Use bold to emphasize and underlined to really emphasize your points. Headlines can have every other word, starting with the first letter, capped. Your copy will be much more effective!

3. Write your copy in an alluring fashion. Keep it compelling and write to draw the person who reads it, to want more information from you. Look at the kind of copy that sold you. That’s always a good template to start with. Copy the way it was written but watch that you do not infringe on any copyright laws.

4. Make sure your writing smoothly flows from one point to the next. Don’t be afraid of writing long copy unless it is for an article where 500 to 700 words long seem to work best. The point is to make sure that it flows with interest and compels the reader to want to absorb every word.

5. Save all the good sales letters and articles that you come across. Throw away those that are complete hype. Be different and write good sales letters and articles. Keep a file and use various sentences that work for your own ad copy. Change some of the words and restructure the sentence so you do not infringe on copyright.

6. Once you have some success, request testimonials. Place them on your sales pages. Try and get full names if your customers do not mind. First name only is not that credible. When you have great testimonials, you will enhance sales.

7. Your copy must be error free. People will judge your professionalism and not buy if they question any weakness in your marketing. Some marketers misspell on purpose as they brand themselves as a regular guy that made it big. You have to get there though before you can expect this to work for you. In the meantime, try and review all your copy before publishing.

Writing effective articles and effective ad copy requires study and persistence and testing.
